More About This Verse

MEANING

The peace Jesus offers is twofold: an inner peace that comes from Jesus, and true reconciliation with God. This is made possible only by Jesus taking the sins of the world upon Himself and His sacrifice of death. As we obey and follow Christ through the Holy Spirit, we can have power over how we feel by choosing to go to God daily.

Cultivating a close relationship with God is a true remedy to all fear. Jesus is our pathway to God, and His presence gives us peace. “Peace comes from trusting that Jesus is there with us and in us. Jesus is our peace” (Bible in One Year commentary).

  • The Message version says this verse this way:

“I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left—feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.” (John 14:25-27, MSG).
