Today we will learn the name El Elyon - The Most High God.

There is nothing, and no one higher or greater or with more authority than El Elyon: supreme and superior, above all; to be respected, worshiped, and honored above all, because He is the Most High God.

El Elyon, the Most High God, has the final say on everything.

  • Does a doctor have the final word on your physical healing? No, God has the final word.

  • Does someone or some circumstance have the final say regarding your success? No.

  • Does your boss or do you have the final say on your employment or advancement? No.

God has the final word on your finance’s, health, future, marriage. God has the final word on whether you will have children or not.

God has the final say in the battle you are facing at this moment.

Are you facing a spiritual, mental, emotional, financial, or relational battle? Whatever the case, El Elyon has the final word. He is the final authority. Things may appear impossible, but with El Elyon—The Most High God—you can, and will, have the victory. Nothing is impossible with El Elyon because He has the final word. He is the Most High God.

God Makes the impossible possible

God shows us how He, the Most High God, is in control of every battle through this story of Abram and Melchizedek. God delivered the victory in to Abram’s hands, using as few as 318 untrained men compared to thousands of seasoned warriors on the opposing side.

Several points before we read this story:

  • Abram’s trained men were not warriors. They had never experienced a battle.

  • Abram’s 318 men were going up against 5 kings whose armies total in the thousands and whose men were battle tested and had just won a battle.

  • The odds were not in Abram’s favor. On the face of things, a victory looked impossible. However, with God all things are possible. Abram trusted God.

‘Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was priest of God Most High, 19 and he blessed Abram, saying, “Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth. 20 And praise be to God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand.” Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything. 21 The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the people and keep the goods for yourself.” 22 But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “With raised hand I have sworn an oath to the Lord, God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth, 23 that I will accept nothing belonging to you, not even a thread or the strap of a sandal, so that you will never be able to say, ‘I made Abram rich.’ 24 I will accept nothing but what my men have eaten and the share that belongs to the men who went with me—to Aner, Eshkol and Mamre. Let them have their share.”’ (Genesis 14:18-24, NIV).

Abram and his 318 men defeated the armies of the five kings and returned with Lot and all the other people and goods that had been taken captive. When Abram returned, he was greeted by Melchizedek king of Salem who was also a priest of El Elyon—the God Most High. Melchizedek spoke a word of blessing over Abram from El Elyon, the God Most High, who delivered the enemies into Abram’s hands. It was not Abram and his men who brought about the victory, but El Elyon who delivered the victory into Abrams hands, using as few as 318 men to defeat an army.

The devil settles for a piece of you, but God wants all of you

Notice how the king of Sodom tells Abram, “Give me the persons and take the goods for yourself” (Genesis 14:22). The defeated king of Sodom walks up to Abram, the person who defeated his armies in battle, and asks for the people to be returned.

Don’t the spoils usually belong to the victor? Yet, that is not how the king of Sodom saw it. The king of Sodom was willing for Abram keep some of the spoils for himself but the king wanted to continue to be king over his kingdom. He wanted to rule over all the people.

The king of Sodom is much like the devil, the enemy of your soul. The devil is a defeated enemy and yet he still wants your heart. The devil will one day be cast into the lake of fire. However until that day, the devil wants to remain in power and rule over you as long as he can. The devil has already lost the battle: Jesus rose victorious over death, hell, and the grave. He is now seated at the right hand of the Father.

Like the king of Sodom, the devil doesn’t want everything back. When you placed your faith in Jesus the devil lost, but he won’t ask to rule over your whole heart, only a portion so you can still feel good about being victorious.

You can have Jesus in your heart and be person of faith and yet the enemy of your soul still wants you to relinquish part of your heart to him. The devil will settle for a small corner of your heart in the beginning. If he can rule your life in certain areas he still has power over you. You see the devil knows, if you will allow him a small part of your heart, then you are not 100% sold out for Jesus. But God desires your whole heart. He desires all of you: body, soul and spirit.

Let me ask, is EL Elyon the Most High God in your life or have you allowed the ruler of this world to gain a foothold in your life?

Resist the Devil and he will flee because God has all authority

Do not accept the kind of thinking that today’s society wants you to believe. Do not think that you are successful or blessed because someone gave you a helping hand or that it was by your own ability. Your blessing, success and victory in life come from Adonai, El Elyon, the Sovereign and Most High God of all creation.

There is no authority even close to God. The devil himself admits that God is El Elyon, the Most High God (Isaiah 14:14).

The devil will attempt to trick you into thinking that you can be like God, much like he tricked Adam and Eve in the garden. Mankind’s sinful nature is at odds with God and with living as a child of God. Yet God extended His love towards mankind and made an escape from the bondage of sin and death. God sent His one and only son Jesus—the Righteous One—to die and be raised again for the unrighteous. Death has no hold on us. When you put your faith in Jesus, your spirit is made alive in Christ and you’re saved.

How to resist giving the devil a foothold in your life:

  • Walk in faith and victory each and every day.

  • Resist the devil and he will flee.

  • Call out to Jesus in faith.

  • Put on the full armor of God and know that like Abram, you may do battle in the physical, but God will give you victory. You will be victorious spiritually.

Discouraged, fearful, or tired of the battle?

Is El Elyon the most High God in your life? Who is it that sits on the throne of your heart? You or El Elyon?

Remember:

  • God is sovereign.

  • He rules the universe.

  • He is all powerful, all knowing, and ever-present.

  • He put the stars in the sky and spoke the world into existence.

Are you wondering where is God?

  • Do you feel discouraged and alone because of this Covid virus?

  • Are you thinking that things look hopeless?

  • Have the recent events surrounding this virus taken your joy captive?

This virus has wreaked havoc in the world and in families around the globe. The events in some cities are heartbreaking. People are being hurt or killed, and property destroyed. Things may look out of control.

He will fight the battle for you:

  • Do not give in to fear.

  • Trust the Lord with all your heart.

  • Lean not on your own understanding.

  • In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.

  • Do battle in the spirit and pray.

Cry out to El Elyon, the Most High God Cry out to Jehovah-Jireh, Jehovah-Rapha, Jehovah-Shalom. Cry out to Jesus. It is because of Jesus you have the victory.
